Apple vs. Education System

by Nikola Novoselec

Well this was interesting, got contacted one morning to hold a lecture at the university of Organization and Informatics about Mobile Applications, particularly iPad Apps and the influence of tablets on the marketing and advertisement of products in corporate / business environment.

Why is that interesting? First of all I remember not so long ago, somewhere in 2007/2008 I was trying to get into every possible class at my university that had something to do with mobile technologies. The state-of-the-art mobile technology class was about base stations, signal transmission, GSM and 3G standards and modulations, code-division multiple access and other standards of multiplexing. No one knew anything or cared about mobile technologies, mobile phones or apps, that was just some stupid thing used for sending SMS and bother professors in class. Symbian was at the top of it’s game and everyone was crazy about the Ding-Ding-Dong Frog ringtone.

So how impressive is it that Apple managed to change all that in only a few years, where not only future engineers but also future economists and accountants want to learn about mobile applications, about tablets and the future of mobile marketing? I am very glad that the education system is changing because it’s about time to stop wasting people’s time with outdated information from the ’80s and actually teach relevant, useful things from this century.

About the picture, yeah I forgot my whip and hat… :D

SAP Forum “Mobility” fur Partner & Ecosystem recap

by Nikola Novoselec

Well, this was a very interesting event which showed that even core business industry cannot ignore the fact that mobile applications became a required commodity. Also, the coincidence (or not) that RIM was presenting just after Apple I find amusing, because for me it confirmed one important thing – even in the business world RIM is dead unless they manage to pull off a miracle as soon as possible.

One thing is especially interesting, among all the experts who made SAP the power-horse it is today in business circles, it seems there is none who understands anything about UI design and User Experience, let alone those two combined in the mobile world. All the mobile applications that were made internally in SAP, functional as they may be, they could do a lot more and look nice enough to actually make the user want to use them. Instead they look like it’s 2007 and the iPhone just came out yesterday.

The important message that was sent out is that SAP wants help from it’s partners to create better and smarter Apps, so lets see if we can get some synergy going…
